The Brandenburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Access to Information in Brandenburg (LDA) draws attention to the growing importance of IT security

Commissioner Dagmar Hartge said that the data breaches reported so far show that data security is only guaranteed if adequate mechanisms are in place to protect IT systems. Unlike in the past, a small security gap can quickly affect the rights of a very large number of data subjects. The Commissioner also stressed that public authorities also have a duty to ensure the security of the digital services they offer. The frequency of threats caused by ransomware, password mining and cyber attacks show how important it is for public administrations and businesses to set up mechanisms to guarantee data protection and IT security, constantly check their effectiveness and adapt them to new threats. Due to the constantly advancing technological developments, data protection must adapt more to the use of artificial intelligence and the ubiquitous processing of personal data.
