The Privacy Protection Authority (PPA) in Israel has launched an investigation into a security incident suffered by CyberServe. The breach affected users of Atref, a dating site for the LGBTQ+ community. The PPA will investigate whether the administrator was negligent in ensuring adequate data protection. In Israel, downloading or using leaked data is a criminal offence punishable by up to 5 years in prison. The Israeli State Prosecutor’s Office has ordered ISPs to delete any information leaked as a result of the incident, block access to any sites containing the leaked personal data, and filter search results that may lead to such information. The PPA has also published general recommendations of actions that can be taken to minimise potential damage in the event of a data leak.
