The Lithuanian State Data Protection Inspectorate has issued recommendations on the processing of debtors’ personal data

The recommendations aim to facilitate the understanding of the principles applicable to the processing of debtors’ personal data under the GDPR. In them, the authority discusses key issues related to data protection, such as the principles of data processing, the legal basis for processing and the roles and obligations of parties involved in the processing. It is important to note that the rights under the GDPR do not affect debtors’ obligations towards creditors. In doing so, the Inspectorate emphasised that it does not have the power to decide on the methods of calculating a debt or to rule on the existence or non-existence of a debt, its reasonableness, or the amount of interest.
