On July 1, 2024, the European Commission published its preliminary findings on Meta’s ‘pay or consent’ advertising model. This publication follows the opening of a formal investigation into Meta’s compliance with Article 5(2) of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) on March 25, 2024.<\/div>\n
The Commission reminded that, pursuant to Article 5(2) of the DMA, gatekeeping organizations must obtain users’ consent to combine their personal data between designated core platform services and other services. If a user refuses consent, they should have access to a less personalized but equivalent alternative.<\/div>\n
