On January 24, 2024, the European Commission announced the creation of the European AI Office (AI Office) to develop tools and methods for evaluating AI models, monitor compliance with AI regulations, identify unforeseen risks, investigate breaches, and support the ban on high-risk AI practices. As part of the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology, the AI Office will not affect the powers of national and EU supervisory bodies. Its tasks also include cooperating with AI providers to promote best practices and support the implementation of the EU AI Act, ensuring uniform application of regulations, assisting in the creation of guidelines, and coordinating regulatory AI sandboxes. The decision to establish the office takes effect on February 21, 2024.
