The Danish Digital Agency (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen) started an inspection in 2022 of the cookie solutions on the website www.facebook.dk, owned by Meta.
Digitaliseringsstyrelsen found that Meta violated the regulations by:
- obtaining bundled consent for cookies for various purposes without allowing end-users to give separate consent for each purpose;
- not presenting the option to withdraw consent in a clear and user-friendly manner;
- not providing exhaustive information about the cookies and similar technologies used.
Digitaliseringsstyrelsen has ordered Meta to take the following steps to bring its cookie solutions in line with Danish regulations:
- users should be able to express separate consents for different purposes;
- users should have the opportunity to withdraw consent for cookies and similar technologies;
- users should have permanent access to information about all the cookies and similar technologies used, and this information should be presented in a clear, precise, and easy-to-understand manner.
Meta has four weeks to correct the deficiencies.
