The European Commission has published its report on the Internet of things (IoT) study

The final report and accompanying working paper identifies potential competition issues in the fast-growing markets for IoT-related products and services. One of the main areas of concern for stakeholders is the extensive access by voice assistant providers to data, including information on how users interact with smart devices. The collection of large amounts of data enables voice assistant providers to dynamically develop their smart products and services, which significantly affects their market position. The information gathered in the context of the IoT sector inquiry will guide the Commission’s future enforcement and regulatory actions. In the report, the Commission said that similar sector inquiries may prompt companies to review their business practices, particularly with regard to competition and consumer protection issues.
